Tow-A-Tent Technical Specs

How it works

The whole set-up folds neatly away to be towed as a normal trailer. It’s compatible with any 4×4 vehicle with an engine cubic capacity of 1.8 or higher.

The trailer is compact, lightweight, and capable of going anywhere – no roads necessary! Tow-A-Tent is dustproof – after 10,000km on dirt roads, tests show no water or dust ingress.

Even delicate foods – eggs, soft fruits, and vegetables arrived intact and without a dent. Once you set up camp, the 2-man Ripstop Tent is automatically activated when the trailer lid is opened.

The tent is completed automatically once opened, and the queen sized mattress is in the lid.

Et voila!

Inside your tent, you can enjoy all the comforts of home – a 72l fridge/freezer combo, LED lights, fresh water from the 80l stainless steel water tank with a 12V pump, neat monkey-proof storage boxes, and cooking utilities.

As seen in the technical specs, a flysheet provides extra insulation along with a ground cover and a few other details for added comfort. The queen-sized bed offers the best sleeping experience its ultra-soft 75mm foam mattress.

The mechanics:

  • The trailer is made from 5754 marine-grade plated alloy – it’s super lightweight, strong, and non-corrosive (maintenance-free).
  • The chassisindependent torsion axle makes it 4X4-compatible. No more snagging on the *middelmannetjie.
  • The stainless steel water tank holds 80 litres and its 12V pump delivers first-world water pressure. For easy refilling, we included a filler tube
  • There’s a 72-litre fridge/freezer combo for excellent braais, cold beers, and glam-camping breakfasts  – cold milk, fresh yoghurt, even bacon!
  • The 12V 105Ah deep cell battery runs the National Luna fridge. The battery supplies continued power for up to 3 days without a charge.
  • 4 storm straps are provided with storm anchors, for adverse weather conditions.
  • 3 additional tent walls provide added insulation and bad weather protection when necessary. Their large gauze windows can be closed alongside a zippered door.
  • GVM (including everything inside the trailer) = 1050kg

  • The Fly Sheet (stored in the nose cone) fits over the additional tent walls. The ‘Ripstop fly sheet’ is aluminium coated on the top surface and is 900mm wider than the main tent on 3 sides, and extends 2.5m beyond the front and 150mm higher than the main tent to form an undercover veranda and keeps the rain off the main tent windows.
  • Aluminum poles, with pegged guy ropes, support the fly sheet. They are stored in the Pole Box, which is accessed from outside.
  • A  groundsheet for this front section keeps the set-up clean and comfortable.
  • The swing-out door can be locked from inside. It supports a 2-plate gas stove which may be used for both indoor and outdoor cooking.
  • Monkey-proof sealable plastic containers provide neat and easily-accessed storage for clothing, utensils, bedding, and food.
  • The spare wheel (full size 16”), charcoal, 220V cables, tent walls, sandbags, and a Jerry can, are stored in the lockable outside nose cone.
  • The suspension can carry up to 1.8 tons of weight.
  • Tow-A-Tent weighs 790kg (TARE), a fraction of the nearest competitor’s weight.
